What is YA?

Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, Twilight, The Book Thief, Howl's Moving Castle, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Percy Jackson & The Olympians, Fangirl... What do all these books have in common?

Answer: They were all written with an audience our age in mind.

THAT is Young Adult Literature. YALit. Books just for us. Traditionally, the age range would be 14-25, but they often deal with themes that resonate with a much wider age range. Even classics like To Kill a Mockingbird, Lord of the Flies, Catcher in the Rye, The Outsiders, The Hobbit, A Wrinkle in Time, and my personal favorite, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn are all books we read as part of our Junior High, and High School curriculum.
